I generally think that MP's should follow the party line, accepting the need that sometimes they'll need to grit their teeth and vote in favour of legislation that they're not 100% happy with. I do however accept that occasionally there are matters that evoke such strong feelings, matters that breach such dearly held principles that than an MP might be driven to stand defiant in rebellion against their party.

I would have to ask though: Is minor amendment relating to homophobic hate speech really the place to lose your rebellion virginity in such a principled stand?
